NC500 on a YB100cc on a YB100cc - Day 1 - two of my mates, Steve and Dave met me at home and rode with me up the Fosse Way. At 140 miles down I was in Ashbourne, Derbyshire being met by Paul and Jody who took me on a most picturesque but challenging ride along narrow roads and steep hills in the Peak District. The boys would have gone on and on but by the time I hit a few miles short of 200 for the day, I was ready to get off!
First night was in The Huntsman Inn, west of Holmfirth.

NC500 on a YB100cc
Funny how some masochists need more and more pain. Having endured the entire coastline last year on a bike that was cutting me in half in the peeing rain, I'm thinking - lets do it again. Lets ride 650 miles often along busy urban roads just to get to the start of the NC500 - the loop around the northern Scottish coastline to and from Inverness. And then after the coastal route we have to ride the 650 miles back home again - mad but true. And on a comfortable motorbike? Oh no, the same little 100cc oil burner - the 2-stroke Yamaha YB100.....the same bike I rode in Ireland last year!
All I can say is it was fun, I met some lovely people and the weather was sub-tropical !!

More self imposed flagellation??
Well I made it around the coastline of Ireland in 2022 on the little Yamaha YB100cc so I thought "why not have a go at the NC500"? OK I'd be a year older and likely less fit and the bike had been playing up but when you say you're going to do something you look daft if you back down?
But living 650 miles south of the "main event" - the North Coast 500, trying to pick my way through the historic English industrial heartland I knew would be a challenge. That being said, outside of the area of the "Satanic Mills" the northern countryside is beautiful.
Picking a route would be a problem because I did not know the area - all I knew was I must avoid motorways and urban areas wherever possible.
More videos to come !!

As a Tour Guide who works throughout the UK, Ireland and Western Europe, there is nowhere quite like Kingswear and Dartmouth and the stunning estuary of the River Dart.
Wonderful to be back here again.....if only for an hour!

I’m taking the little 35 year old Yamaha YB100 again quite a feat for the bike AND me!
Problem is taking enough stuff for two weeks and enabling me to get the old leg over - I’m not as nimble as I once was!
I will be posting updates on my blog on my LetsTourEngland site and Facebook but no videos will be published until at least mid July as I will be off to Ireland at the end of June so no time for editing.
Thanks for watching and please do subscribe to my channel!

This is what we have all been waiting for - a 30,000 mile review of the YB100. After searching for any kind of review I decided to do my own!!
Every time I have tried to look on line for a “Review” of the YB100, on YouTube all I can see are “For Sale” ads and some crazy racing type videos from India where the YB is still very popular.
In production for many years, a main prong of its popularity is the quality of build and the “bomb proof” engine.
Admittedly, when I decided to do this video, it was going to be a bit of a “spoof” on the big bike reviews, but nevertheless, at least now, there is some sound information about the YB100 in usage and performance.
First registered in 1988, when I bought the bike it had 19k miles on the clock and now it has nearly 31,000. I have _never_ seen a 30,000 mile review of a motorcycle before, let alone a 100cc 2-stroke so that should be something pretty unique to start with!!
I mostly ride this bike with the _Wiltshire Whizzers_ (see on Facebook) – a group of guys from the NACC / EACC who enjoy riding small engine bikes and here I must say a huge _thank you_ to my two great mates, *Steve Hoffmann* and *Geoff Brooks* without whose technical prowess, this little bike would have been unrideable - they've got me out of a few holes it has to be said!!
Guys, please, if you think this video deserves a thumbs up, please give it one and *SUBSCRIBE* to my channel. SUBSCRIBING costs not one penny and you will get to hear about other videos I have published.

The more pious of us may say we should have done a “recky” - that may have resolved the faux pas with the route but would we have cancelled because of the utterly appalling state of the roads….? I don’t think so. After all, we are hardened bikers!
Dave Godden said he had not been on a run with so many “C” class roads and thats the attraction with the Honey Street run - we rode past some gorgeous countryside, through tiny hamlets with stunning thatched homes and gardens, and alongside the Avon and Kennet Canal.
Geoff remembered bits of the run and I thought I did too but - well we literally ended up going round in circles encountering the most outrageously dangerous road surfaces I believe I have ever encountered in this country! Indeed, the money _has_ all gone!
Anyway - it was good to get together, 15 of us again I believe.
@RobLittleuk
The hedgerows were fairly bursting with flora particularly the Queen Anne’s Lace and the beautiful hawthorn blossom.
We are so lucky to live in such a gorgeous part of the country 😊
@RobLittleuk
And would could be more appropriate than for my final guests to be a couple accompanying me for the SIXTH time, no less!
Scotland, Northumberland, Lake District, Devon and Cornwall, Ireland, France and now this current trip to Wales.
They had a great time and so did I and the weather surprised us too!
Sit back and enjoy and please watch until the end !

Some may say its my _come-uppence_ for yesterday's arrogance
They may be correct.

And.....

I shall visit:
Omega Yamaha dealers
London Motorcycles
Bill Bunn Motorcycles
ClassicBike Emporium
.....with lunch at The Ace Cafe!
Some say I am _kindness personified_ 😳

I found these up on the Cotswolds and feel quite guilty because they thought I had something for them.....sorry chaps!

One annoying thing that I don't seem to be able to overcome is that YouTube does not want to stream in 4K to my TV so when the bike speeds up there is a lot of breaking up and pixelisation that is not evident when watching full screen on my Apple desk top. Editing in 4K is "interesting" but once you remember to do a few things while selecting clips in the GoPro App, importing into Final Cut Pro is not a problem although the GoPro 360 Max only films in HD.
But besides the technical, managed to grab a break in the rain for this ride out through the beautiful Cotswolds oh and hanging the camera off a road sign and editing the drive by pan, worked quite well I think?
Thanks for watching guys - please give me a thumbs up if you liked this video, and subscribe!

@economicalrides - you get a mention !
Ever since we joined the European Union and our farmers were instructed to grow it, this colourful crop has established itself as part of the stunning British Spring.....contrasting with the different greens of barley and wheat across the landscape.
The crop is attacked by a beetle and that, and the weather, makes the harvest values volatile not least now that we have banned the application of the insecticide that combats the beetle, because it may harm bees.
Therefore many farmers are dropping the crop altogether the irony being we are importing the produce of Rape Seed from countries flouting the insecticide ban - because we need the product!! DUH ! We shoot ourselves in the foot once again!!
@RobLittleuk
Sadly it now looks as if I was too early to see the spectacular display - I will try again next week !!

I've had this GoPro 360° MAX at Christmas and have not had a proper go at filming with it, editing and integrating with my other GoPro and iPhone footage. First time I went out i forgot the sim - DUH. Next time I forgot my pozidrive screw driver - great tip, use a pozidrive bolt instead of the thumb screw supplied by GoPro - the latter can be visible in footage which is annoying! Third time, battery was flat. So this time, having purloined a few clamps to try to attach the 360 securely orrff I went!! Tried various locations for the camera and got home to do some editing. Unfortunately the camera was waggling about a bit but in the end not a bad first stab I think?
As other 360° editors will know, the secret is in the exporting of clips from the GoPro App; not making the clips too large and remembering to check the horizon and "tiny planet" options. Then I found that the panning in FCPX was too sensitive - there must be a way to change that?
Anyway - I don't think the end product is to bad as a first effort?

The following year, 2021 we had similar problems and 2022 their poor old dog was ill and they couldn't travel. All this time we were keeping in touch, facetiming, and we became friends before we even met.
Although the weather is a little changeable in April, most of the time when we were out it was dry and sunny and though I say it myself, the Cotswolds looked absolutely stunning - the flora beginning to emerge and the lambs in the fields.
But I have decided I can't keep waiting for my core market to return so it is now time for me to have some fun - I am way past the age for it!
Enjoy this video - its just some clips I have compiled from the week. You may appreciate the varied scenery of The Cotswolds, Marlborough Downs, Salisbury, the famous "Gold Hill" in Shaftesbury and Bristol - my favourite city.

It was the familiar ride up to Braydon Pond where Geoff supplied us with choccy biscuits but was was unfamiliar was the number of floods we had to ride through…..reminiscent of the ride out with Dennis many years ago when he got stuck after his flywheel got flood water shooting all over the place!! Memories!!
I think there were 12 of us in all and most enjoyed a Sunday lunch cooked by Dave at The Red Bull which was excellent!
Thanks to Steve for organising the run!
Motorcycling is a great social pastime and small engined bikes and mopeds are just as much fun as racing around on a 1250GS and seeing nothing! Our little group are very welcoming and we love a laugh. You'd be welcome to join us - even if you don't have a small bike. But we do ride the speed of the slowest bike!

I have religiously photographed these trees from the same spot all year round and the only time I have been unable to photograph it is in snowy weather. We did have just a little snow last year but I was "under the weather" so didn't take advantage.
I can see I will need to do a remake one day!!!
(PS when I was waiting to publish this video it snowed!)
@RobLittleuk
And we had a bit of a new route - Rod said “That flood wasn’t there when I checked the route on Sunday and “That road wasn’t closed when…etc etc” resulting in us having to climb a very steep oil-burning hill into North Nibley!! But it was a brilliant route and the coffee stop was good too!
Lovely to see everyone again - we all made it through the winter and thanks to Rod for his hard work planning the route.
@RobLittleuk
After my epic ride around the coast of Ireland, I am planning what could be an even more epic ride this June, on the YB, so watch this space!

Lovely spot on the River Thames, downstream of Oxford which reminds me I must do a little video Goring-on-Thames one day.
Afterwards, I met Steve and had lunch at The Six Bells in Warborough. This is "Midsomer Murders" country - much of the footage was filmed in this area!
The name "Shillingford" would derive from a crossing point on the river, through a ford, before the bridge was build albeit that the water would seem too deep today, for a ford to exist.

In truth its been ages since I've "played"!!
This kind of instrument is very forgiving if your skills are a bit rusty. I consider myself lucky that I play by ear - I learned to play piano properly but sight reading music was my downfall!!
Oh well - nice to have another Yamaha to keep the old YB company !!

Sorry about the definition - its the best I could do on the iphone.
