This delectably entertaining book, now into its 5th edition and 500 pages strong, epitomises the art of humour, language and repartee. Impeccably edited and indexed, as only Oxford knows how, by topic and perpetrator in broad sweeps of both, it remains a daily delight after years of use in the Hoare house, where it occupies a position of privilege alongside our Thomas Crapper loo.
As an alimentary aid, it can hardly be bettered; but as a tonic for the sick, it is peerless.
Roll on a 6th edition. Hats off to all concerned!
