How much of any genome is functional? In this video, I review the definitions of "function", different type of genomic elements relative to their functionality, introduce selection-drift antagonism, and present the intuition for methods for detecting sequence constraint. Ultimately, I conclude that the percent of functional elements is inversely proportional to the size of the genome.
