I’m so sorry if you’re sick of seeing this shape being made in my feed. Truth be told, this approximate form, with a tall foot, angular sides and an indented rim, is all I want to make at the moment—it’s like I’ve got to get it out of my system.
There was a time a couple of months ago where I was reminiscing about missing throwing curved forms, as a majority of what I make is either a mostly a straight cylinder, or it’s made up of numerous flat planes and angles. Even my bowl shapes, which had angular shapes, I’d throw angular initially, yet with these pots there was something I was never quite happy with as bowls feel best when they have a gracious, flowing curve on the inside.
The answer is really simple, instead of throwing angular pots from the get-go, instead I throw a curved form with somewhat thick walls, then once leather hard I can carefully trim the walls back on the exterior to create the more distinctive, Florian Gadsby, shape. Since figuring this out, this shape has remained constantly on my mind, which leads me to apologise in advance for the sheer amount of bowls in my upcoming online shop restock.
