I first heard this song in this vid by JaneDoe with Onward: youtube.com/watch?v=NOe-RAEAivI (Beautiful vid and film btw!) and was heavily inspired to put it with HTTYD. I guess I'm more sentimental and emotional these days and the whole "Take me back" theme hit hard.
Today is also my 9 year anniversary on YT. Hard to believe. Hopefully I'll have more vids in the future for you guys, but all my time recently has been working more on my VFX portfolio/website, and stuff this summer. After some delay, I'll be "officially" graduating Aug 9th. Now it's onto the next phase of life....job hunting. **SPOILERS FOR THE FILM IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT**
β Hello everyone! As you can tell, I went to see Raya and the Last Dragon opening day and just had to make a new video about it.....two weeks later.
It wasnt a HTTYD level dragon movie but it was really good. Beautiful film with a very simple but very difficult message on trust. Ive had trust issues with people for years now, so this was a hard to swallow message, but I think it was really well done and made me think. I loved the character development of Raya and Namaari as well, not to mention the character designs! And Sisu was hilarious and a such a joy to watch move, ahehe. (The animator in me was impressed.)
I plan to do a couple more vids at least for the movie. Took me two full days to decide on what song to edit with for this first one because I couldnt decide between what theme I wanted to focus on: The friend/enemy dynamic of Raya and Namaari, or a VO driven narrative, or something more cinematic with sound fx and parallels.....I guess the latter won? Go figure.
I heard this song in a Mulan vid by Midnight Mist that was REALLY well done (Like seriously the best mulan vid, check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1Rb0SBGbpU&t=7s) and I of course had it on my long list for HTTYD to-dos, but that quote from the top called me to edit it with Raya instead. Ive been wanted to edit this style for awhile now. Sound fx is hard man, its not as polished as Midnights but I really enjoyed making it!
Oh and I have a question if you are still reading: what do you think of this widescreen aspect ratio? I did it for my previous vid too but Im not sure how I feel about it....Kinda miss the good old 1080p you know? Maybe its just me. So do you like it full wide screen or cropped?
Anywho, thats about all I have for now. I DID get a freelance editing gig, that PAYS, so thats been keeping me pretty busy. Its nice to get paid to edit something for a change I will say.

About this vid:
So, after the release of the HTTYD3 trailer, I had the urge to make a heavily Voice Over, story mode video with the franchise so far. As you can see I played fav with HTTYD 1 taking most of the time...but in my defense, I DID plan it all that way.
This is still rather the short end of the stick of my goal. Ultimately I want to highlight ALL 4 shorts, and each TV series with greater depth, along with the 3 films, however, I will need more than one musical piece to accomplish this.

Even if you dont know Star Wars the Clone Wars, its still worth watching because the editing is soooo enchanting and so darn SMOOTH!!! Man I wish I could edit LIKE THAT! ITS SO GOOD!

Speaking of which, who is still in shock over the news theyre reviving the show?!?!? AHH, I just got into the show over the summer and am so pumped! (Give me more Ahsoka, I love her now too lol!)

Whew, this baby was rushed. Anyway, hope you like it; think it went with Hiccup quite well. My part for DreamingOnTheMoons 9th MEP!! I really fell in love with this song....so solemn but beautiful! I tried to match that solemn, sad, almost depressing feeling with some tweaked B/W color effects, with a purple overlay and broken glass texture. Thought about adding some text but my editor had had enough....plus I was on several deadlines. I kinda wish my part had been a little longer (even though it was rushed by a suddenly new dead deadline just received.), but I felt it was still too short; such a lovely song! Cant wait too see the full thing! (=

Warning: Infinity War Spoilers! IDK if this is still relevant but youve been warned anyhow.
You must know with a song that is as deeply depressing as this I have a reason. I was trying to get this up before the HTTYD3 trailer and fandom resurrected, however, this is not a project to be rushed like that one was.
A week ago today, on June 3rd, 2018, my grandfather passed away. We knew the time was approaching, but that doesnt make the loss any easier. Its been a tough week for the family, especially my father and grandmother. IDK what is harder, the actual loss or seeing the people closest grieve. Ive been to more funerals than I wish I had to go to growing up, but the grandfathers were definitely the hardest.
As for me I am fairing fine. Its strange going to my Grammys house and him not be there. I am not sure the fact that I no longer have a grandfather has sunk in yet.
For what its worth, in answer to the repeated question in this song: Can beauty come out of ashes? Do I believe it? Yes, yes I do. Thats something I know my grandfather stood for; he was the most spiritually devoted person I knew. I feel like I only started to get to know him this past year staying with them while at school, or the stories people shared about him at the funeral. His legacy will live on and all though its hard letting him go, it was time, he was ready to be with Jesus. I have absolutely zero doubt that is where he is right now.
As for the vid I think it speaks for itself. ITS FREAKIN CELINE DION! How can you not get emotional? I was emotional before having a reason to be emotional listening to it. I LOVE IT! Every time I hear it all I can ask is: How can a song like this come from a film like Deadpool 2? (Sorry way outta my line for a Marvel film) It should have been in Infinity War - look at all the actual ash! I like that effect, ahe.

Star Wars Clone Wars TV show: I just recently got into this show due to a certain friend....Im lookin at you HTTYD2014 ;) But Ive become obsessed with the characters there, particularly Ahsoka Tano.
TrollHunters: This show is seriously the BEST original TV show Ive seen since Teen Titans (And thats saying a lot!) If you have not watched it, you better put it on your bucket list. Its so compelling from the story to characters to everything! Sad its over but uh, surprising ending.
Coco: Just another winner from Pixar, what more can I say?
Hunchback of Notor Dame: I actually only seen this ONCE and I liked it, but I only used it cause the lyrics.

Why hello everyone!! This may have taken a waaayy longer than 3 weeks, ahehe. ;)
I think it was worth the wait though, and despite the long delay, it WAS the most successful MEP Ive hosted. 11/12 people delivered their parts on time so I cant complain too much. And you 11 people did an OUTSTANDING JOB!!! THANK YOU so much for your participation and dedication!! I really appreciated it xD
BIG SHOUT OUT to FortisFaith for reaching out and being so willing to double up on parts. I couldnt have done it with out you. *literally* If it wasnt for her (and Funtasicvids) this MEP would probably be sitting idle till the end of my school semester.
Oh and speaking of THAT, yeah thats where Ive been this whole time; Ive been going INSANE this past month since starting back to college. My life has taken a complete 180 degree turn from being consumed with boredom all the time, to being overwhelmed 24/7 with assignments/deadlines - night and day, even in my dreams/nightmares; I cant escape -all I do is eat, sleep, and breath Animation!! Its wonderful and stressful at the same time, aha! Granted, Id rather be busy than bored so thats positive.
With that said, you probably can tell Ive been too busy to even tell you Im too busy... SO, this is to OFFICIALLY announce that I am on a *SEMI-HIATUS* till the end of the semester. This is the first time in 6 years Ive had to say those words, but I am dead serious about pursuing Animation and it requires 110% of my devotion. In fact I didnt even dare open my editor at all those first 3 weeks cause I was so stressed. (I finally caved in one night though because I was so desperate to vent.....then I regretted it the next day.)
I LOVE my school, the professors, and simply learning and being in a Christian environment in my major is such a rarity too. Ive been working in Maya 3D software, animating 2D principles digitally in TVPaint, and drawing a ton and learning about design of course on old fashion paper. However - as odd as this is gonna sound - drawing is not one of strong points, at all. I love drawing I just hate my drawing if that makes sense. Im more technical than artistically gifted on the broad scheme of the animation field, but I got a lot of heart ache in drawing till I get where I want to be. Its soooo discouraging and makes me feel so inferior though. *shakes head*
Anywho, where was I? Oh the Hiatus: Yep, Ill still be around but I certainly wont be editing/uploading much of anything for awhile. (But Ill comeback! I love video editing too much ;)
Oh, and several people have commented on my usual RTTE highlight video Ive been doing.....um, yeah I intend on doing it for this latest 5th season someday but it wont be anytime soon Im afraid. It took me 3 weeks just to watch it (I think I finally finished it last weekend? IDK) I have some thoughts on it but I wont digress here. IT was good but not better like how the previous 4 built up. I still need a song to edit to it as well but cant find one that sparks....
Okay, thats all I can say for now, gotta go back to animating, drawing, working in Maya, all that jazz. Sorry if this description sounded scattered; I AM scattered these days. *sighs*
