I made a version of Donga Punch using a custom blended whiskey for my friend's bachelorette party and it was a huge hit! She loved it so much that she's making it her signature wedding cocktail! The original recipe calls for rhum agricole, but it tastes just as amazing with blended whiskey, bourbon and mezcal (we tried them all)! Plus, you can batch it (or semi-batch it like I did). In this video, I give you the Donga Punch recipe and break down how I chose the 8 different whiskeys that went into Rachel's custom blended whiskey. I also tell you how I made the cinnamon simple syrup. Note: I am not a bartender nor do I pretend to be one. I keep everything super simple when it comes to cocktails, so if I can do it, so can anyone! Here are the recipes!
Donga Punch recipe:
1.5 oz rhum agricole*
1 oz grapefruit juice
3/4 oz lime juice
1 oz cinnamon simple syrup
- Add ice and shake
- Serve over crushed ice
- Garnish with mint
*Substitute with whiskey or mezcal
Cinnamon simple syrup recipe:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
- Heat the water and sugar until the sugar melts
- Remove from the heat and add cinnamon
- Let cool and strain out the cinnamon (or don't)
