This is a one of a kind village: Located beneath a rock, this village has a very unique appearance and been admired by many visitors. This village looks like it was from a fairytale, maybe it is the town of the Beauty and the Beast. No doubt, the majestic appearance and location make Rocamadour to one of the most beautiful villages of France. This village has a turbulent history, it’s been important for Roman Catholic Christian pilgrims, because of the church that is said to be built on the ground of a chapel established by Zaccheaus, who came all the way from the Holy Land to this place. In the medieval times, a corps was discovered by the chapel that was then believed to be Zaccheaus / Saint Amadour. The original chapel was destroyed during the reformation, the church looted during the French revolution and Rocamadour became relatively unimportant. However, in the 19th century, today’s church was built in here and Rocamadour again attracted numerous pilgrims. While the religious pilgrimage is declining in today’s times, Rocamadour became a magnet for tourists. Numerous visitors come to Rocamadour as it is said to be one of the most beautiful French villages. Rocamadour attracts tourists due to its unique location, its look and the medieval vibes. The village remains up to this day pristine, the medieval vibes are omnipresent, making it a true joy to explore Rocamadour. Besides, the department of Lot does offer many more beautiful places to be explored, Rocamadour being a perfect base for traveling to the nearby attractions.

![Top 10 SECRET Villages of Switzerland [Travel Guide]
Switzerland is full of wonderful villages but a majority of them remains widely unknown to the common tourist. While many may find their perfect village in the touristy hotspots, some might prefer rather calm and lonely villages. Sometimes you may find these villages just nearby the touristy centers but mostly it would require a lot of research. In this video, I present you the Top 10 secret villages of Switzerland, spots at where you may enjoy the serenity. Bürglen in the Canton of Uri is the hometown of William Tell, the national hero of Switzerland. The village of Bürglen is very small but worth a quick 30 minutes’ exploration. It’s best to be combined with the Schächental and the Klausenpasss. Morgins is a wonderful winter wonderland village in the lower part of the canton of Valais. It’s very quiet but beautiful with the many houses decorated with their Christmas lightings. It’s best to walk around during sunset and dusk. Morgins is furthermore part of the Portes du Soleil ski resort. Luchsingen is another secret village of Switzerland in the canton of Glarus. The environment at Luchsingen is very green and you may find many beautiful traditional houses. Luchsingen is perfect to combine with the Klausenpass and the Diesbach and Berglistüber waterfalls. Samnaun is in the very east of Switzerland. Its mainly known for the famous ski resort Silvretta Arena but many people do not know that Samnaun is one of the most beautiful villages during Winter in Switzerland. Roam around the many alleys and enjoy the houses with their colorful paintings. Schwarzenmatt in the green Simmental valley is a perfect hidden gem. It’s very quiet up there, just perfect to enjoy the green environment, the fresh air, seeing the many Swiss cows and wonderful traditional wooden houses. Münster in the canton of Valais is commonly passed by on the way to Zermatt. Definitely, it’s worth a quick stop as Münster is full of wonderful traditional houses. There are many alleys and corners to explore, thus another great secret Swiss village! Luthern in the canton of Luzern is also barely known among the tourists. The village charms with its beautiful church and green hill environment. The houses in Luthern furthermore remind one of the nearby Emmental. Definitely, Luthern is good to combine with Luzern and the Emmental. Carona lays in Italian-speaking Ticino and is another hidden gem village of Switzerland. The village is famous for its many artisans and just feels very calm overall. Do not forget to visit Carona’s botanical gardens. Evolène in the canton of Valais is the most beautiful village in the Val d’Hérens. It’s getting more known recently but still remains a secret tip. Do not forget to explore the rest of the valley, there are many wonderful gems to discover in there! The number 1 on this Top 10 secret villages of Switzerland list is Rivaz. Rivaz is a wonderful Swiss village embedded into the Lavaux, the Swiss vineyard terraces. Rivaz is much less visited than nearby Saint-Saphorin and Epesses. Among these three, Rivaz is the perfect sanctuary!
