When The Mask (Stanley Ipkiss) is trying to sneak past his landlady's door. An annoying alarm clock comes out of his pocket and he silences it by whacking it with a croquet mallet after missing twice. The animated alarm clock spews a few cogs and springs just before The Mask smashes it with a giant hammer. In a more "traditional" scene, Mask's (Stanley Ipkiss) also produces a Hyperspace Mallet to kill an alarm clock. While sneaking around in the halls, the Mask's alarm clock turns on, and he turns it off in a very hard way.
The series retained major plot points from the film, with insecure bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss using an ancient mask to gain superpowers while taking on the mischievous personality of The Mask. The major alteration is that Stanley can use the mask in daytime as well as at night.
Stanley finds a wooden mask near the city's harbor. Placing it on his face transforms him into a zoot-suited, green-faced, bizarre trickster known as the Mask, who is able to cartoonishly alter himself and his surroundings at will. Stanley scares off a street gang that attempts to rob him by turning a balloon into a Tommy gun, and then he exacts revenge on his tormentors.

When Ipkiss puts on the Mask, he becomes a wacky, zoot-suited, suave cartoon figure with the superhuman ability to manipulate his own shape and the world around him; this is implied to be the projection of his preferred fantasies onto himself. Before Carrey was cast, Matthew Broderick, Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Martin Short, Keanu Reeves, Mike Myers, John Ritter and Robin Williams were all considered. Stanley Ipkiss's dog of Jack Russell Terrier breed.
