Did Rocket Raccoon really just decide to abandon the Guardians and go with Thor just to check out Nidavellir and its weapons? It was deeper than just wanting to go and see the legendary Nidavellir. After Groot was cloned and this new Groot formed, Rocket became his father in a way. This is actually confirmed by James Gunn, who has noted that Grootâs last words in Infinity War were âdadâ when he was looking Rocket. Groot joins Thor into going to Nidavellir
Rocket went with Thor, and brought Groot along, because he thought It was safer to be with Thor than the rest of the Guardians. When Quill tells Rocket that he knows he is only going with Thor to avoid Thanos, he is right. However, he is not avoiding Thanos out of self preservation, but in order to keep Groot safe. Of course, this fails to make any difference, but It is wise to recognize Thorâs superiorty over the rest of the Guardians, which includes Drax, who screws things up constantly. Regardless though, Rocket made the right move as a Father to Groot.
