Red Alone was a monster concept created through a short-lived design contest run by Toho and Tsuburaya Productions in the early seventies, where kids could create a monster and the winning creature was selected to appear in a future Godzilla film. Producer Tomoyuki Tanaka saw potential for Red Alone in both a movie and a standalone series, but the design was heavily reworked before production began. The wings, beak, and insect-like features were removed, transforming it into a humanoid robot that resembled Ultraman. This redesign ultimately became the character we all know and love…Jet Jaguar.
