Weapons was probably my most anticipated movie of 2025 besides Superman. It got rave reviews but is it actually THAT good? Well, in my opinion. I think it’s an ambitious, visually striking horror film that absolutely nails its tone and atmosphere. Josh Brolin delivers a strong performance, and the direction, cinematography, and 1970s-inspired imagery are phenomenal. The pacing flows nicely through its chapter-based structure that sprinkles information to the audience gradually. However, my main issue is the ending. No spoilers but it feels abrupt and I really think that it could’ve used another chapter to tie things together. The social commentary also comes across a bit muddled, it’s like the film knows it wants to say something profound but can’t quite articulate it. Still, the overall experience is gripping, unsettling, and gorgeously crafted. It’s a smart, eerie horror movie that actually sticks the landing.
