It’s always magical when the lights come on! We are using miniature incandescent bulbs as well as tiny LEDs for lighting the engine shop area.
Check out the fun lighting effects in and around the cooling tower and sand house. We are using a surface mount LED, very small, so that it will fit inside the switch lantern. This is Karyn’s lamp of choice in almost all of her models. We have even smaller surface mount LEDs, one of which makes an excellent arcwelding effect!
The hoist house is lit by 5 mm screw in LEDs. The 5 mm screw in bases are very useful. We have several different varieties of incandescent bulbs that we can use with them as well as various colors of LEDs that have built in dropping resistors so that they run on 12 V.
We are adding two more exterior lamps to both the coaling tower and the sand house, we’re having these custom made by Locomotive Joe, Karyn found his eBay store and ordered some lights several years ago. and We have absolutely fallen in love with them. He also makes custom lights by request . So we’re having him custom make the two lights, one for the sand house and one for the coaling tower.
And finally, the lantern guy! A railroad worker with a railroad lantern. I started this figure over a year ago and just never finished him. But the plan was for him to be here in front of the sand house. So while I’m wiring all these other lights it seems logical to go ahead and wire and install him and maybe that will inspire me to get around to just finishing him!
