@Mac84 peer-pressured me into buying this $15 KLH 386 Champion at the System Source Swap Meet on July 20, 2024. It features an Intel 386SX processor running at 16MHz, 4MB of RAM, a 40MB hard drive that might still work, an integrated Ahead VGA graphics chip with 256KB of RAM (upgradable to 512KB or 1MB of video memory), and two 16-bit ISA slots, all in a cute little low profile desktop case. After all, the teal feet are so adorbs... and sticky. (Note to self: buy some teal TPU filament.)
Unfortunately, the original NiCad battery did what they do worst when left on the board for over 20 years: caused corrosion of traces underneath the solder mask. And unfortunately I did what I do worst: I messed up trying to get the solder mask of off potentially compromised traces. Net result: I very quickly went from zero to a dozen broken traces in the immediate vicinity of the battery.
Will I manage to fix any traces? Will I be able to fix enough to allow the computer to POST? Or will I end up sending the computer to someone else to fix? You'll have to watch to find out!
