In 1982, NCAR teamed up with the University of Chicago to conduct the Joint Airport Weather Studies Project, or JAWS. Researchers were studying microbursts, or small regions of intense outflows of air often associated with thunderstorms, in order to help improve aircraft safety. In this film, researchers work with a variety of instruments to collect data about microbursts. (NOTE: this film is silent)
