What if the Intellivision had evolved into something completely different?
In this video, I'm diving deep into some of the rarest and most fascinating Intellivision designs you've probably never seen before. I'll be showcasing original preliminary concept artwork by legendary Mattel designer Ted Mayer, revealing early ideas for the Intellivision II, an unreleased version of the Intellivision III, experimental controller concepts, keyboard modules, computer add-ons, expansion peripherals, and other wild hardware ideas that almost became reality and some that did, at least in some form. Ted Mayer created concept art showing the Intellivision II and Intellivision III alongside planned extensions like the Entertainment Computer System, Intellivoice, and System Changer, illustrating just how ambitious Mattel's vision really was.
We'll also take a look at the strange and innovative accessories that helped make the Intellivision one of the most ambitious game systems of the early 1980s. From the infamous Keyboard Component to the ECS and other expansion concepts, Mattel envisioned the Intellivision as a modular entertainment and computer platform long before that idea became common. Along the way, I'll share my own memories of growing up with the Intellivision, the games I loved, and why this console still holds a special place in my heart decades later. Whether you're a lifelong Intellivision fan, a retro gaming enthusiast, or just curious about the incredible "what ifs" of video game history, I think you'll find something surprising here.
