✈️ Why is it useful to study prostate cancer cells in microgravity?
.
For several years, Daniela Grimm's team use microgravity, simulated by a random positioning machine (RPM), as a stimulus of changing the physiological behavior of human cells. Interestingly, an exposure to microgravity seems to shift different cancer cells towards a less-malignant phenotype
.
Prostate cancer cells were found to be less aggressive and showed changes in lipid second messengers and signal transduction after exposure to a simulated microgravity on a HARV. This finding has to be evaluated in real microgravity
.
To see how prostate cancer cells behave in real microgravity and to shed light on the early changes upon short gravitational unloading, Daniela, Sascha and their collegues wants to investigate cells of the well-established cell line PC-3 during the 34th #DLR Parabolic Flight Campaign
.
