This is a response to Vittorio203 who advocates the benefits of restricting free speech in certain instances. He sites the European Convention on Human Rights as an appropriate model.

Unfortunately, people may be reluctant to speak important truths if freedom of speech is curtailed too readily.
Example--The government should be able to protect national security by classifying certain documents. But there is a real danger if the government gets too much leeway to curtail speech since it can suddenly classify almost anything it finds embarrassing as a national security issue.
