Conflict and climate change are two of the leading drivers of global food insecurity. The UNSC has been seized of matters relating to both climate change and food insecurity with varied considerations and several events focused on these issues in recent years. In February 2024, Guyana will convene a high-Level open debate on "The impact of climate change and food insecurity on the maintenance of international peace and security" as the signature event of its presidency.

In this explainer video, you will learn the definition of this concept as well as its four dimensions: availability, access, utilisation and stability. Experts also outline paths for boosting food security and adaptation to climate change in a conflict-sensitive way and point to ways forward for a more food secure world.

This video was filmed during the 2023 Berlin Climate and Security Conference (BCSC). The explainer contains interviews with several experts on the field, namely David Ismay (Gro Intelligence), Dhesigen Naidoo (Institute for Security Studies), Grazia Pacillo (CGIAR FOCUS Climate Security), Linda Ogallo (IGAD Climate Security Mechanism), Michael Werz (Food security expert), Raquel Munayer (adelphi), Susanne Fries-Gaier (Geman Federal Foreign Office).

Direction, production and scriptwriting: Laís Clemente Pereira (adelphi)
Script supervision: Raquel Munayer (adelphi)
Camera and editing: Paulus Müller-Hahl (Lichtbilder)

The production of this video is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
