The sixth edition of the Berlin Climate and Security Conference (BCSC) explored how to secure a climate for peace. The conference examined why climate must be integrated into peacemaking. Through taking stock of best practice examples, it advanced concrete climate security approaches and initiatives.

Climate change is central to the UN’s conflict prevention agenda, yet its effects complicate stability efforts in fragile zones. In Sudan, flooding worsens conditions for displaced communities, while in Haiti, climate uncertainty pushes youth to urban centers, increasing risks. This session gathered experts to assess climate security in peacekeeping, discussing multi-dimensional approaches and stakeholder roles for effective responses.

Speakers:
• Anne A. Witkowsky, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations of the United States Department of State
• Hiroko Hirahara, Director of Civil Affairs Division, United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)
• Gerty Pierre, Climate Change Director, Ministry of Environment of Haiti
• Input and moderation by David Miliband, President and CEO, International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The production of this video is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
