Start your engines for a true arcade legend. Pole Position rolled onto the Atari 2600 in 1983, bringing home the biggest coin-op hit of the year. It started as a Namco arcade game, then Atari licensed it and squeezed it onto home systems, and this ad was pushing it into every living room in America. This is the game that basically wrote the rulebook for racing. It put you in a Formula 1 car with that behind the car view everyone copies to this day, it was the first racing game built on a real track, the Fuji Speedway in Japan, and it made you nail a qualifying lap before you could even join the race. It was also one of the first games to talk to you, with voice callouts, and one of the first to line the track with real advertising billboards.
