The cows broke out this morning and went on a visit around the neighborhood. They were quite easy to recapture and get home, but I discovered a mysterious blood trail when I went back to fix the break in the fence. There was a long blood trail along the outside of the fence, but not terribly near where the fence was broken. There were also two large areas of blood pooled along it. It was fresh blood from the last 12 hours or so, but frozen.
I can't find any wounds on the cows after checking them over pretty thoroughly and they are behaving normally. So whatever the blood came from, it doesn't seem to be the cows. It seems like a huge amount of blood for a rabbit? Essentially an unsolved homestead mystery. Likely to be a cold case forever.
