AKheon | The Great Escape (PS2) - the jankiest escape @AKheon | Uploaded August 2022 | Updated October 2024, 20 hours ago.
I had this old stream recording lying around from when I completed The Great Escape, so I did a small highlights video of the final levels which had given me considerable trouble...
0:00 - The first few clips are about me getting distracted by the wire trap instead of remembering to escape.
0:31 - I thought it was a nice detail that you can also hurt yourself by driving into the wire with the motorcycle.
1:00 - I seemingly phase through the wire after slowly backing into it? But it doesn't work when I try it again, so who knows.
1:28 - on one occasion when I set the wire trap, the enemy soldier was not flung off the bike but instead entered this strange ground animation of getting shot (?).
2:00 - alright, time to finally get started on that escape... The bike controls felt very strange in this game, and I often had troubles not getting stuck on things.
2:32 - an enemy soldier randomly assists me getting over a fence.
2:49 - the enemy behavior in general has a lot of RNG, and it's not uncommon to get kicked off the bike at random times.
3:13 - shout-out to the game's small speedrunning community...
3:42 - randomly die from bumping into an enemy vehicle. Did the game think I was ran over, or something?
4:06 - slowly formulating a plan for jumping over the final fence. Also, a series of humiliating and mildly bizarre failures.
5:52 - and finally, a triumphant Hollywoodian stunt jump over the final fence... or maybe it was closer to a face plant... but hey, it was good enough for the game.
