Fifty years ago, Colorado was supposed to host the Winter Olympics. But the state is forever known as the only place to ever be awarded the Games — and then reject them. After Denver won the Olympic bid in 1970, what followed was two years of excitement, confusion, deceit and protest, culminating in a statewide referendum where Colorado voters essentially rejected the 1976 Winter Olympics.
