Welcome back to our early morning seminary teacher training series! In this video, we explore the bedrock principles that guide our instruction to ensure a successful seminary experience: the Fundamentals of Gospel Teaching and Learning.
Key Concepts Covered in This Training:
The Three Primary Aims: The objective of Seminaries and Institutes of Religion provides three primary teaching aims: First, to teach students the doctrines and principles of the gospel as found in the scriptures and the words of the prophets. Second, to teach these doctrines and principles in a way that leads to understanding and edification. Third, to help students fulfill their role in the learning process and prepare them to teach the gospel to others.
The Core Fundamentals: To achieve these aims, teachers and students are encouraged to implement specific fundamentals. The foundation begins with teaching and learning by the Spirit, and cultivating a learning environment of love, respect, and purpose. Additionally, teachers and students must commit to studying the scriptures daily and reading the specific text for the course.
Deepening Understanding and Expression: We cover the vital step of understanding the context and content of the scriptures and words of the prophets. Once that foundation is laid, teachers help students to identify, understand, feel the truth and importance of, and ultimately apply gospel doctrines and principles. Furthermore, we discuss how students need opportunities to explain, share, and testify of gospel doctrines and principles, as well as master key scripture passages and doctrinal topics.
Interconnected Outcomes: We conclude by emphasizing that all of these principles, practices, and outcomes are deeply interconnected. When implemented wisely and in harmony with each other, they encourage students to take an active role in their gospel learning and significantly increase their ability to live the gospel and teach it to others.
