Welcome back to our early morning seminary teacher training series! In this video, we focus on the foundational activity of reading the scriptures together in class. Doing this can help students become familiar with and better understand the verses they are studying, and it can also help them become more confident in their ability to read the scriptures on their own.
Key Concepts Covered in This Training:
Creating a Safe Environment: Teachers need to be careful not to embarrass those who do not read well or who are very shy. A cardinal rule of the classroom is that students who prefer not to read aloud should not be forced to do so.
Empowering the Shy Reader: Learn how teachers can encourage timid students to participate in ways that they are more comfortable with. For example, assigning a short scriptural passage to a student beforehand so he or she can practice reading it is a great way for that student to comfortably participate in class.
Five Ways to Read Together: To keep your classroom engaging, there are several ways to read the scriptures together in class. We explore five different methods you can use:
1.Have students read aloud, either one by one or in unison
2. Have students read to each other
3. Have students read a passage silently
4. Assign different students to read the words spoken by various individuals in a story
5. Read aloud to the students as they follow in their scriptures
