Welcome to the 10th video in our Getting Started Series! In this tutorial, we explore the Form Command in Fusion - a powerful tool for creating organic, ergonomic shapes like the handle grip on a fishing reel.
Unlike traditional modeling techniques, the Form environment lets you sculpt geometry as if working with clay, making it perfect for complex curves and smooth surfaces.
In this video, you’ll learn:
Creating Forms using primitives like cylinders
Applying Symmetry for mirrored edits
Closing open ends with Fill Hole and refining curvature with Insert Edge
Using Edit Form to scale, move, and shape geometry for a custom grip
Adding finger indentations and bulges for comfort
Leveraging Extend to Adjacent Faces when extruding onto curved surfaces
We’ll start by building a base cylinder, patching its ends, and tightening curves for a sleek look. Then, we’ll sculpt the grip using symmetry and edge manipulation, ensuring ergonomic design. Finally, we’ll add functional details like a tapped hole and apply a realistic Powder Coat Black appearance for a professional finish.
By the end of this session, you’ll have a fully modeled handle grip and a solid understanding of how to use the form tools in Fusion for organic designs.
