In this video, I talk about how I fitted my UHF radio in my 4WD and the decision on the placement of the antenna or Aerial, on the passenger side of the Nissan Pathfinder bull bar edge. I am told the reception may be a bit less where I have it, but I have had them in both positions and have not noticed any difference in reception on either, BUT I totally believe they are right that you would get better reception with it mounted in the centre of the bull bar. As for what I do with the radio, I am very happy with being on the edge and out of the way. When travelling off-road, overland or in the outback, having a UHF in the 4x4 is very handy. You can contact other vehicles with you or be guided through a tough bit of track using the UHF. The guide does not need to be in view or have a loud voice (You can also talk to them at any time if necessary). There is also a huge advantage if you break down or become lost. Ours gets quite a bit of use when we are travelling or camping, and I would not be without one now.
