Don't copy his cadence.
Maybe a better way to say this is...you don't HAVE to copy his cadence or any other elite runners.
People get too hung up on this variable.
Cadence/step rate manipulation can be helpful in modifying one's running technique; however, don't get hung up on sticking to a specific cdaence.
Your optimal cadence can be different at different speeds.
You can see elite ultra runners who run 100 mile races, who can be around 160 steps per minute.
You can see elite sprinters who can hit cycles of around 250+ steps per minute.
Running around 200 steps per minute is fairly average among elite runners who run the mile.
However, even if you copy his cadence, you are probably not running nearly as fast as him.
This is because we need to consider his step length, where his maximal step length was a whopping 2.2 meters, which is a product of the power and elasticity in his legs.
The final point here is that when improving running performance, you should not only consider aerobic capacity, but also the elasticity and power of your legs.
This is where incorporating plyometric work can be quite useful.
