Herodotus of Halicarnassus was an early ethnographer and travel writer. He went to Egypt, Libya, Syria, Babylonia, Susa in Elam, Lydia, and Phrygia. He journeyed up the Hellespont to Byzantium, visited Thrace and Macedonia. He travelled beyond the Danube to Scythia and as far as the Don River...

In this piece, I attempt to evoke the exotic travels of Herodotus
by this improvisation for replica ancient Greek kithara, featuring an exotic ancient Middle Eastern musical mode...a fusion of ancient Greek & ancient Middle Eastern timbres!

The kithara was the lyre of the professional musicans of ancient Greece; a large, resonant wooden lyre featured in recitations of epic poetry & such was its prominence in classical antiquity, that kithara contests were common, where competitors went head to head in demonstrations of virutosity & musicality.
