A presentation from my 2026 album, "Invocation to Athena" - track 4, "The Silvery Light of Selene". This album features a series of mythological soundscapes, carved out of the ancient timbre of recreated lyres & kithara, inspired from classical Greece! It is my sincere hope, that the listener will be transported on a 'musical adventure in time travel' through a tapestry of ancient Greek mythology.
The selection of tracks features both a selection of new, original pieces for recreated ancient lyres & kithara in a selection of the original ancient Greek Modes, as well as a completely re-recorded and remastered new version of the track "The Apparations of Phantasos" my 2021 album, "Echoes of Ancient Greece" - the only piece of music that actually came to me from a dream.
In ancient Greek mythology, Selene is the ancient Greek goddess and Titaness personifying the Moon, daughter of Titans Hyperion and Theia, sister to Helios (Sun) and Eos (Dawn), depicted driving a silver chariot across the night sky, often with horses or bulls, symbolizing night, magic, fertility, and the moon's phases, and famously known for her love affair with the mortal Endymion.
This piece, performed on my Luthieros ‘Lyre of Apollo III’, features the distinctively dark and intense ancient Greek Hypodorian Mode – formed of the conjunction of 2 tetrachords which form the equivalent intervals as A-A on the white notes of the piano, this mode was confusingly misnamed the ‘Aeolian’ mode by scholars during the Middle Ages.
The arrangement of this piece was based on a live improvisation I created on YouTube back in 2023:
