In this video, I talk about the evolution of consumer camcorders. I start with the 1980's camcorders, such as the Betamovie, the first video camera to have the camera and the recorder in one unit. I then talk about the 1990's and the many different formats that were used, and how technology advances allowed for camcorders to become smaller. I then talk about the 2000's, when digital formats became popular, high definition cameras started to appear on the market, and magnetic cassette tapes were completely phased out. Tapes were replaced with DVD's and eventually flash-memory or hard-drive based camcorders, which dominate the market today.
