The EV Van Fantasy COLLAPSES! BVRLA's Own Report Tells the REAL Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The BVRLA has just asked why the transition to electric vans is proving more challenging than electric cars.
Well… perhaps they should read their own Road to Zero Report, because the answers are sitting right there. 😂
In this video, I go through the BVRLA's latest Road to Zero findings and look beyond the optimistic language to what the underlying numbers and admissions actually tell us.
And some of them are remarkable.
The BVRLA says demand for electric vans is "far behind" the levels required by the ZEV Mandate and acknowledges that, for most operators, electric vans still "do not make clear economic sense."
Their report also reveals:
🚐 The median new electric van costs £56,277.
💷 On a like-for-like basis, electric vans are approximately 27% more expensive than ICE vans.
📉 Electric van demand continues to lag ZEV Mandate requirements.
🔌 Operators face limited van-friendly public charging, few opportunities to pre-book chargers and lost productivity while vehicles are charging.
📦 The BVRLA acknowledges continuing concerns about whether current electric vans can meet businesses' day-to-day operational requirements.
📊 Electric vans represented just 9.4% of LCV registrations year-to-date in the figures used by the report.
And perhaps most revealing of all, the BVRLA says demand for rental EVs is concentrated among business customers and that corporate net-zero and ESG commitments are the most likely route to increasing adoption.
Meanwhile, the supposedly successful electric-car transition isn't quite as straightforward as the headline suggests either.
The BVRLA says business leasing is the principal driver of BEV uptake, with company-car and salary-sacrifice schemes benefiting from powerful incentives. It also reports that rental EV utilisation remains below ICE utilisation.
So perhaps electric vans aren't mysteriously "more challenging" at all.
Perhaps commercial vehicle operators are simply doing what businesses have always done:
looking at the numbers and asking whether the vehicle actually works for the job.
I'll take the BVRLA's own figures apart and ask whether the electric-van transition is being driven by genuine commercial demand—or whether policy is attempting to move considerably faster than the market.

Would YOU replace a diesel work van with an electric van today? And if you already operate one, I'd particularly like to hear what your real-world experience has been.

I’ve been using the Hilo blood pressure monitor for years — and it has genuinely helped me control and lower my blood pressure.
Now it’s had a major upgrade.
It doesn’t just monitor blood pressure 24/7…
It now tracks:
✔ Sleep
✔ Steps
✔ Activity
All inside the same bracelet.
For me, the biggest advantage has always been:
• Continuous blood pressure monitoring
• No “white coat syndrome” readings
• Real-world data instead of snapshot readings
And now having sleep and step tracking built into the same app just makes it even more useful.
