EV Battery PROPAGANDA COLLAPSES — Their OWN Data Exposes the Problem!

For months we’ve been bombarded with reassuring headlines about EV battery longevity.
Generational’s 2025 Battery Performance Index analysed more than 8,000 battery assessments and reported an average State of Health of 95.15%. It even concluded that, in most cases, the battery was likely to exceed the lifespan of the vehicle.
Sounds reassuring.
But now Generational has gone deeper — right down to individual cell level — and the story becomes considerably more complicated.
Its latest analysis of approximately 10,000 used-EV battery tests found that while the overwhelming majority were well balanced, around 1 in 85 tests showed a cell-voltage imbalance above 50mV requiring investigation, while around 1 in 200 exceeded 100mV, potentially indicating an underlying fault.
And here's the crucial point:
Generational itself now says State of Health DOES NOT tell the full story of battery condition.
A battery can apparently display a stable overall SoH while individual cells are developing problems that could eventually affect range, charging behaviour, vehicle value and potentially lead to expensive repairs.
Even more revealingly, Generational says two batteries with similar State of Health can behave very differently if one has significant cell imbalance.
So what does that tell us about all those reassuring headlines based around average battery State of Health?

Why aren't comprehensive independent battery-condition certificates standard on EVERY used EV?
I'm not claiming that 1 in 85 EVs needs a new battery — Generational doesn't claim that either. In fact, its data shows that most batteries tested were well balanced.
The issue is what the headline SoH figure may NOT tell you about the individual used EV you're about to buy.
Because you don't buy the average of 10,000 batteries.
You buy ONE car.
And you need to know what's happening inside THAT battery.
