Today marks the beginning of the Emotional Eating Mini-Series (nested within the Weight Loss Series). The Steps in this series are:
1.) Embracing the Wisdom of Emotional Eating
2.) Laying the Foundation of Safety
3.) Learning Nervous System Resourcing
3.) Healing and Integration (will likely take 2-3 videos to fully cover)
Today's video is on the Wisdom of Emotional Eating and talks about WHY some people develop the coping mechanism of Emotional Eating in the first place. This discussion centers on the legitimate need many of us have have for nervous system soothing in the face of unbearable overwhelm.
We also discuss how that "unbearable overwhelm" develops, exploring the idea of the nervous system's "Window of Tolerance" and why some of us have smaller Windows of Tolerance than others.
We'll also take a few minutes to appreciate the deep wisdom and reliable soothing of Emotional Eating. Acknowledging that moving our relationship with Emotional Eating from angry warring to gentle acceptance is a powerful first step toward healing and integration.
