I love the early era of survival horror. Especially those in the wake of the first Resident Evil. Overblood is one of those titles. Yet it's not what I'd call an RE clone - despite its protagonist bearing a strong resemblance to a Resident Evil charcter. Overblood released only five months after the first Resident Evil. The timing being more of a coincidence. Overblood's developer, beat Capcom to the punch by a couple of years with its own Alone in the Dark Clone in 1994. While Resident Evil would set a standard moving forward and is one of the greatest games ever made...Overblood is not.
Puzzles are lacking, there not a strong sense of exploration, combat is awkward. Gameplay is ho-hum and sparse. But it has plenty of heart and that goofy charm you find in the early days of survival horror. In a different way compared to Resident Evil. Plus, it has one of the most likeable characters I've come across in some time. By no means a great game, I did have an enjoyable time with Overblood.
