Look at this grass — bone dry, parched, and I bet you've got the same thing where you are right now. These drought conditions aren't isolated; they're all over the country, all over Europe, all over much of the world. What's especially alarming is how close this fire came to Sizewell nuclear power plant, a stark warning about the vulnerability of our critical national infrastructure.

This is the new tragic condition we're all living in: climate emergency. Wildfire has worried me more than almost anything else for a long time, because as a country we are so ill-prepared for it. Alongside tackling the root cause, we urgently need to properly resource our response to drought, heat, and fire; building real resilience before the next one hits. My hope is that this fire at Dunwich, and the warning it's sounded, becomes the start of a genuine shift toward keeping ourselves and our critical infrastructure #SAFER, together.
