Compared to the hard life of a medieval peasant the life of a monk must have been a doddle. Right? Well, no not really. Religion was at the heart of medieval life, and as it spread across Europe the Church became all powerful, and in turn, monasteries became an important part of society. Today we will continue our series of ‘A Day in the Life’ and travel back in time to look at some terrible haircuts, troublesome demons, ‘God’s Pearls and constipation. We also meet Brother Wulfstan, a Benedictine monk who lives and works within St Mary’s Abbey in York.
