Lenin argues against Trotsky and other Opportunists. Trotsky & Kautsky claimed to be anti-imperialist and for peace but really they were tools of Chauvinism. Especially Trotsky used left-sounding rhetoric saying that struggle against imperialist governments was really reverse Chauvinism, Chauvinism in favor of the other Imperialist powers.
Lenin correctly pointed out that when defending Russian imperialism and opposing German imperialism Trotsky was still defending imperialism. Lenin re-iterated that "in all imperialist countries the proletariat must desire the defeat of its own government."
