O. W. Kuusinen, one of the leaders of the Finnish Communists and a prominent Soviet politician speaks in the Comintern about questions of Colonialism.
BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:
O. W. Kuusinen was one of the leaders of the Finnish Reds in the Finnish Revolution of 1918. After the defeat of the Reds he fled to the USSR and was among the founders of the Finnish Communist Party.
Kuusinen became an influential Soviet politician already in Lenin's lifetime and an important figure in the Comintern in the 1920s.
Later Kuusinen came to prominence as an ally of Joseph Stalin first in the Comintern and then as the leader of the People's Government of Finland during the Winter War.
The People's Government consisted of Finns & Karelians fighting on the side of the Soviet Union against the Nazi-backed Right-Wing government of Finland. It held territory in Eastern Finland & Karelia. After the peace agreement between Finland & the USSR the People's Government ceased to exist.
Kuusinen was the elected chairman of the presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Karelo-Finnish SSR 1940-1956.
O. W. Kuusinen was an important revolutionary figure and politician both in the Finnish Communist movement and in the Soviet Union but he was also an accomplished theoretician. He wrote about colonialism, fascism, the Finnish revolution, soviet & comintern politics.
