A lot of dungeon sessions slow down because light gets treated like background flavor instead of a real resource.
In this one, I’m digging into a simple old-school referee habit that speeds up play fast: track light openly and make it matter. Torches are not just there so the room can be described. They create pressure, sharpen decisions, and remind the table that dungeon time is never free.
I also get into the question that always comes up: if some characters have infravision, do torches still matter? In old-school play, the answer is still yes.
If you run B/X, OSE, or other OSR-style games, this is one of those small procedures that changes the whole feel of the dungeon.
