Sainath Palagummi is one of India's most highly acclaimed and award-winning journalists. He is the author of Everybody Loves a Good Drought (2007) and winner of many prizes including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the European Commission's Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism, the first Amnesty International Global Human Rights Journalism Prize, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's Boerma Prize and Japan's prestigious Fukoka Grand Prize. He is the founder of the People's Archive of Rural India, an online platform that focuses on social and economic inequality, rural affairs and poverty.
He spoke at the University of Manitoba on October 7, 2024. His topic was Agrarian Crisis and Inequality in India: Politics and Political Economy, which he summarized in five words: "corporate hijack of Indian agriculture."
