Annually, on August 6, Winnipeggers join with people around the world to commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, and to renew their commitment to world peace and nuclear disarmament.

Winnipeg Lanterns for Peace is sponsored by Peace Alliance Winnipeg, the
Japanese Cultural Association of Manitoba, the Council of Canadians (Winnipeg Chapter) and the Winnipeg Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

I was unable to record this year's event, but friends provided their cellphone videos. Thanks to Glenn Michalchuk and Margaret Glavina for their video clips.
