The Israel, Palestine and International Law symposium was held in Winnipeg September 7-9, 2018 to explore the rights and responsibilities under international law of Palestine, Israel and Canada in the ongoing occupation of Palestinian territory.
In this clip, we hear from Michael Lynk and Dimitri Lascaris, who look at different aspects of Israeli's legal rights and obligations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
Michael Lynk is Associate Professor of Law at the University of Western Ontario. He has written widely on Canadian human rights and labour law. In 2016, Professor Lynk was appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to become the 7th Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory. In this capacity, he issues two reports annually on human rights in the OPT.
Dimitri Lascaris is a Canadian lawyer, journalist and activist. In 2012, Dimitri was named by Canadian Lawyer Magazine as one of Canada’s 25 most influential lawyers. He is a correspondent and board member of The Real News Network and a board member of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East. Dimitri ran for the Green Party of Canada in Canada’s 2015 Federal elections, in the riding of London West. Subsequently, he served as justice critic on the GPC’s shadow cabinet.
