Day 4 of wheat harvest started off looking pretty promising… until the breakdowns started piling up!
We got the combine back together after finding the problem with the header, and things were finally moving along. The wheat looked great, we were making good progress, and we were hoping to knock out a big chunk of the field. Then, completely out of nowhere, the combine plugged up again—and we found a broken feeder belt.
After waiting about an hour and a half to get a replacement belt, we finally got back to harvesting… only to make it about 100 feet before the rear tire and wheel bearings came completely off the combine!
We had to bring out the loader, chains, blocks, and everything we could find to get the combine safely lifted up and repaired. It definitely turned into one of those farming days where it felt like everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
But eventually we got the combine back up and running, opened up the rest of the field, and started filling semis. We even got an awesome sunset over the wheat fields with all the smoke in the air!
We also talk about the frustrating header problems we've been fighting and whether a different header might be in our future.
