In 1983, the US invaded Grenada in what was seen as a controversial event. Although, they brought some stability to the country, the Soviet Union saw it of imperialist nature and even Reagan' staunchest supporter, Margaret Thatcher, condemned the invasion of a former British colony. Even more controversial was the US intervention in Nicaragua. After the Nicaraguan Revolution 1979, the US invaded fearing a communist government. Nevertheless, in order to fund the Contras, they illegally brokered an arms deal with Iran and went against the Boland Amendment initiated by Congress.
