If you’ve ever had a Chartreuse Swizzle, you know what a special drink it is. Disparate ingredients coming together beautifully. But there’s more than one way to swizzle a Chartreuse. Many thanks to Robert Simonson for his terrific article on Punch about this drink.

Before I forget, here’s my friend Ryan’s channel—

Chartreuse Swizzle
1.5oz/40ml Green Chartreuse
1oz/30ml pineapple juice
.75oz/22ml lime juice
.5oz/15ml Velvet Falernum
Marcovaldo Dionysos, 2003

Improved Chartreuse Swizzle
1.5oz/40ml Green Chartreuse
.25oz/7ml Wray & Nephew White Overproof
1oz/30ml pineapple juice
.75oz/22ml lime juice
.5oz/15ml Velvet Falernum
Rick Stutz, 2010

Golden Sands Swizzle
1oz/30ml Yellow Chartreuse
.5oz/15ml Hamilton 151° Demerara Rum (though OFTD would work in a pinch)
1oz/30ml pineapple juice
.75oz/22ml lime juice
.5oz/15ml Velvet Falernum
Chris Stanley, 2010

There are a lot of swizzles that are built on the foundation of .5oz/15ml falernum, .75oz/22ml lime and 1oz/30ml pineapple. If you’re interested in experimenting with swizzles this is a good template to start with.

I mention a couple cocktail blogs in this video. 10-14 years ago was a magical time for cocktails (for me anyway). Today, so many ideas have been explored that the drinks scene in most cities has lapped itself and occasionally resembles self-parody (this is especially evident in the competition circuit).

But before there was a craft cocktail bar in every town, there was a large and enthusiastic community that thrived online through blogs. Dozens of people who wrote about drinks as if it were their full time job, even though they already had full time jobs.

No pretension, no cynicism, just a desire to learn and to share. If you want to see what the drinks scene looked like before the crest of the craft explosion, visit either of these blogs and click around, there’s lots of forgotten gems hidden about. Of course, these aren’t the only cocktail blogs, but that’s for you to discover :)
