In 1824 humorist William Maginn, writing under the nom de plume Morgan ODoherty, contributed this punch to Blackwood’s Magazine. Buried in the Maxims of ODoherty, it’s a later example of arrack punch, arrack having been popular in the 1600s and 1700s. It wasn’t completely out of fashion in 1824, but by then the meaning of the term "arrack punch" had changed from punch with arrack, to punch with arrack—and other things as well (hence the addition of rum). If you’re still reading, this video was over a week late. The reason for this is what some would call a rookie mistake that happens to every YouTuber at some point. After adjusting the camera settings to perfect the dolly shots, the entire rest of the video ended up being shot out of focus. That’s right, I shot the entirety of this video, with three other people, and all the footage was unusable. Because I wanted fresh takes, I used different people for the tasting portion. Les, Emerson, and Marisa, I apologize for bringing you here for nothing, and I look forward to hosting you in a future video. To the rest of you, the rookie YouTuber struggle is real.
