The construction technique of the Centennial Hall in Wrocław was so new and frightening to the construction workers during its construction in 1913 that they refused to remove the formwork of the mighty concrete pillars - fearing that the giant dome would collapse. The architect Max Berg eventually had to persuade a passerby to help him remove the formwork from the first pillar. The workers' fear was not entirely unfounded: the structure is audacious concrete incarnate. The span of the dome, formed by 32 vaulted ribs, is 65 meters, almost double that of the Pantheon in Rome.

Revolutionary alongside the construction method was also the architect's refusal of any decorative element. The construction dictated the aesthetics. The world's largest reinforced concrete dome was erected as an exhibition and festival hall for the centennial celebration of liberation from Napoleonic rule. The hall hosted trade exhibitions, sports competitions, and theatrical performances. The Nazis also utilized the monumental space, which accommodates over 6,000 people, as a stage for political grand events. Christian Romanowski's film presents the structure and its history.
