I have to give credit to @Trzebiat and his video '1000 IQ Laser Skip' (youtube.com/watch?v=DJAB2DrXrX4) for answering some of my questions regarding this method and it's viability. I was already working on this idea when his video dropped and proved that this kill can actually be done and explained how it works. Without it I likely would've quit trying after repeatedly failing to kill Milla and/or getting softlocked.

Here's how this works:
The door at 02:28 normally locks behind you and only opens again after Lilith has left the lab, which also triggers the laser trap to become active.
Lilith is mostly invulnerable in the lab, but there's a brief moment when she can die as she's leaving, and the game treats this death the same as if she has simply left the lab because she's not supposed to be killable there.
Triggering and surviving the laser room is what activates the 'neutralize the virus' objective and there are always supposed to be two infected people from the get go; Lilith and another woman upstairs. However, since it's possible to block the locked door from closing in the first place, you can escape the lab early and get past the lasers before they activate, thus preventing the objective to neutralize the virus from ever appearing even though the NPCs are still getting sick.

If you kill Lilith in the lab and still activate the laser hallway sequence afterwards, the game will trigger the normal 'neutralize the virus' objective with 2 infected with only the other infected woman still alive, meaning you will be softlocked as there's nobody else to cure and you cannot exit.
