Patrick Branwell Brontë (1817–1848), the talented but troubled brother of the famous Brontë sisters, was an infamous regular at his local pubs. Driven by a desire for intellectual companionship and escape, he spent much of his adult life drinking to excess in taverns, which ultimately contributed to a rapid decline in his health and an early death.
In this video, Keri and I visit some of the pubs that still exist today, and what role they played in Branwell's life, including The Black Bull, which is said to be haunted by his ghost.
